In the eyes of someone who has no idea about content marketing strategy, the concept is very simple. You just come up with a concept, and you write or record about it. You upload it, people watch it, and all your metrics go up.

In reality, people consume a lot of content (more than ever), but they’re also pickier than ever. With so much to choose from, they need a good reason to give you a chance to actually read what you have to say or watch your video content.

With that in mind, here are a few tips for making the right content marketing strategy calls in 2025.

1. Informational Content is King

One of the main reasons why people read content is to get informed (with the other two major reasons being education and entertainment). So, by providing content that’s actually informational, you’re giving your content innate value.

Now, people tend to be altruistic or just try to gather some social points by giving their friends and followers something useful. This means that if your content is really informational, it will also be highly shareable

This is why actually researching the topic you’re writing about and the topics that people ask is such a great content marketing strategy. Even without trying to qualify for rich answers (which you always should), doing proper research can benefit you so much.

When we talked abut how people might share your content, what we failed to mention is that this applies to more than just social media. Good content will help you generate backlinks. Other content creators will read and realize that they can use your content as a reference.

Most importantly, since a lot of people skim, having content that’s really informational is great for coming up with headlines. These headlines should already contain the core of the information presented, and this will encourage your audience to read more..

The most important thing you need to keep in mind is actually verifying the information you use for your content. Look at it this way: you can always have the most interesting information if you make it up. Unfortunately, there are a lot of content creators who use just that. Do they get penalized? Well, yeah, eventually, but in the short run, they get a lot of traffic.

Avoid this like the plague. The last thing you want is to get blacklisted or flagged by search engines for short-term traffic bumps.

2. Focus On Short-Form Videos

Short-form videos work so great for a number of reasons, some of which aren’t as obvious as you would think.

First of all, they’re pragmatic and provide the optimal amount of value to your audience with minimal effort. Even people who are interested may not have enough time or willpower to read. Let’s face it: Reading has never been a forte for many people, so instead of writing that 3,000-word article that no one will even skim through (let alone read), why not turn it into a short video?

Second, we live in an era of IG reels, YouTube shorts, and TikTok. Short-format video is ideal for each of these platforms. Optimizing for networks that drive the most traffic will greatly benefit you both short and long-term. New followers are a great target for your future content.

You don’t have to make short-form videos by default (or all the time). If you believe that you can effectively clip this content, there are other approaches and strategies you could try out. You could use this short-form content to boost your social media presence and promote your long-form content on YouTube. This dual purpose means that you’re reaping dual value.

Lastly, you don’t have to go with this content exclusively. The best part is that it gives immediate results, which means that you can just try it out a bit and see the results. If you like it, you can keep doing it and even increase your efforts.

3. Make More Infographics

People love the self-gratification of being able to figure things out on their own. This is what infographics do best - allow people to visualize complex concepts, statistics, and terms easily. By turning your content into a form of an infographic, you’ll increase its comprehension, which will drastically increase user satisfaction.

Increased user satisfaction usually leads to higher user engagement, which further benefits your content as a whole. It will make them actually pay attention to your content, which means that you won’t spend hours upon hours creating it (roughly four hours for an average blog post) just to have it read by no one.

This form of content is so useful and helpful that it will make earning links as easy as possible. People love linking to infographics. Why? Well, because they let their audience return quickly to their content. Why would they send their audience to another long-form content piece? There, their audience might get sidetracked and forget to return.

Infographics are also incredibly shareable. This means that they’ll get a ton of traffic and do well on social media. They can also be cropped and posted on social media, but if you leave the watermark with your social media handles, you’ll enjoy quite a bit of traffic influx from this, as well.

Lastly, coming up with new topics can be an incredibly difficult task. Just think about the number of topics you need every single week, and if you’re engaging in a link-building campaign, the task will be even more difficult. Turning old talking points into infographics is one of the most effective forms of content recycling.

4. Start a Podcast

Podcasting is one of the fastest-growing content formats. The reason behind it is the fact that there’s a willing audience out there to consume it. People are no longer afraid of 2-3-hour long episodes because they usually have a podcast somewhere in the background while they’re playing online games, doing homework, or washing dishes. They also consume it while driving to work.

Sure, it’s a bit more expensive to start; however, the costs are not as high as you think. All you need are some basic recording devices, headphones, and some pop filters, all of which you can find for as little as $50 apiece. You also need some editing software but, for the time being, even a free one will be useful.

Coming up with topics and inviting interesting guests is paramount and it’s more difficult than you think. The key to this lies in your networking skills and your effectiveness at outreach.

You can use it to shout out your online presence as a whole. Just because you can’t link to your website, this doesn’t mean that you can’t say the URL. The same goes for your blog, YouTube channel, and social media handles. You can even display them on the screen and leave links in the bio.

This will greatly affect your traffic, and while it may not play into your SEO the way traditional backlinks would, podcasts are still a useful resource for any serious marketer.

5. Paid Ad Marketing Is Still Showing Incredible Results

No, paid ads are not a cheat code. Sure, a lot of people know that organic and sponsored are opposite and since organic is clearly positive, they just assume that sponsored has a negative connotation. Nothing can be further from the truth. In fact, you want to sponsor your high-quality content in order to drive more attention to it (and do it more quickly).

Paid ads are simply better at targeting your audience. They have a superior algorithm that the platform reserves in order to incentivize payment. This is something they do for the sake of their revenue and you may argue that it’s unfair but these are just the rules of the game. Try to compare the reach of organic and premium content and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about.

Since you’ll be more effective at targeting, you’ll also get access to more effective lead generation. This will convert into a higher revenue and even though this additional investment may seem unnecessary and expensive, the ROI will always be positive.

Methods like PPC have sophisticated cost control, which means that you get to see where every single penny you invest in goes. In the past, John Wannamaker said that while he knows that the majority of money he spends on advertising is wasted, he can never know which half. This is no longer true.

Boosting brand awareness is one of the main objectives of your content marketing strategy. The thing is that sponsored content will be featured in the search and feed of your audience and whether they click on it or not, they’ll notice.

While this may not be as effective as actually gaining traffic, with each interaction, you’re getting closer and closer to that golden “rule of seven.”

Crafting the right content marketing strategy is just as important as content creation

In the end, every piece of content serves a purpose and works toward some sort of an agenda. You want more traffic, a better relationship with your audience, higher brand recognition/awareness, and a way to provide value to your audience before they become customers. All of this can be achieved with the right content marketing strategy, and the five ideas listed above are a decent starting point.
